Rhinoplasty, also known as “nose job”, is surgery that changes the shape of your nose by modifying the cartilage or bone. It’s among the most common kinds of plastic surgery and is also considered one of the most difficult.

Fun fact

Rhinoplasty is no modern technique. It was used to treat injured people in the battlefield. Also Rhinoplasty was used in ancient Egypt for restoring the beauty and inquired nose.

Reasons for Getting Rhinoplasty

There can be many reasons to get a nose-job done. People get this surgery for repairing their noses after an injury, to correct a birth defect or breathing problems, or because they dislike the current appearance of their noses.

However, if you want to get rhinoplasty to improve the looks of your nose, you should wait until your nasal bone has grown completely. For girls, this is about age 15. On the other hand, for boys, their nasal bones might still grow until they are a bit older.

If you’re getting a nose job because of a breathing issue, you can get the procedure at a younger age.

After examining your nose and issues, the surgeon can make changes in the size and angle of the nose. They may reshape the tip, straighten the bridge or narrow the nostrils.

Risks of Getting Rhinoplasty

Every surgery carries certain risks such as bleeding, infection, or a bad reaction to anesthesia. Getting rhinoplasty might increase your risk of having a numb nose, scars, breathing problems, or nosebleeds. Sometimes, people aren’t satisfied with the results of their procedure.

However, if you want to get a nose-job, you should wait until your nose has healed completely. This usually takes around a year.
