The US Attorney’s Office has issued an indictment against Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, to be considered in the Federal Court of Manhattan. The billionaire is accused of bypassing sanctions imposed against him.
According to a statement published by the US Department of Justice, Deripaska utilized the US financial system to maintain three expensive real estate properties and also hired a woman to sell his music studio in California for $3.1 million. The woman in question, Olga Shrike, has been arrested.
Furthermore, Deripaska is also accused of organizing the travel of his girlfriend, Ekaterina Voronina, from the Russian Federation to the United States in 2020 and 2022. While there, she gave birth to his children. In addition to Deripaska and Voronina, charges in this case have also been brought against Olga Shrike and Natalia Bardakova.
American law enforcement believes that Deripaska spent hundreds of thousands of dollars so that his children could be born in the US and benefit from the American medical system, as well as automatically acquire citizenship rights.
Under US law, if Deripaska is found guilty by the court, he could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
